The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed an appeal from Argentinian tennis player Sofia Luini against a Tennis Anti-Corruption Program sanction imposed in July 2024.

An appeal hearing was held by CAS via video conference on 15 April 2025, following which the CAS panel upheld the seven-year suspension issued by independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Diana Tesic.

32-year-old Luini, who reached a career-high world singles ranking of 492 in September 2014, was found by the CAS to have committed 22 breaches of the TACP across 2017 and 2018.

Luini’s period of ineligibility remains unchanged, beginning on 23 July 2024 (the date of the decision issued by AHO Tesic), and ending on 22 July 2031. The player’s fine remains at $30,000, and CAS ordered the player make a costs contribution of CHF 1,000.

Additionally, Italian tennis player Stefano Reitano has been sanctioned for breaches of the TACP.

28-year-old Reitano, who reached a career-high world doubles ranking of 484 in July 2024, admitted to placing bets on tennis matches on 32 occasions between 2018 and 2022, and encouraging and/or promoting betting in February 2023.

Having admitted to breaches, Reitano requested a referral to an independent AHO to determine sanction.

Taking into account the player’s conduct, which included earlier repeated denials during interviews with ITIA investigators and having been educated that betting on tennis is prohibited, AHO Jeffrey Mishkin issued a suspension of seven months, and a fine of $7,500 (of which $3,750 is suspended). Reitano’s period of ineligibility is effective from the date of the written decision, 16 July 2025, and will expire on 15 February 2026.

During their periods of ineligibility, Luini and Reitano are prohibited from playing at or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.

The ITIA is an independent body established by its tennis members to promote, encourage, enhance, and safeguard the integrity of their professional tennis events.
