The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) today confirms that American tennis player Alfredo Casso has been suspended for two years following a breach of the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme (TADP).
24-year-old Casso, who reached a career-high ITF singles ranking of 1013 in June 2025, tested positive for the prohibited substance clomifene in July 2025, when competing in an ITF World Tennis Tour event in Santa Tecla, El Salvador. Clomifene is prohibited under the TADP, in the category of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators (section S4.2 of the 2025 World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List).
The ITIA sent the player a pre-charge notice of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) on 29 August 2025 under Article 2.1 of the TADP (presence of a Prohibited Substance in a Player’s Sample) and/or Article 2.2 (Use of a Prohibited Substance without a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)).
Casso did not possess a valid TUE for the substance. Findings for Specified substances do not require a mandatory provisional suspension, and so Casso remained eligible to compete while a full investigation took place.
Following interviews and correspondence with the ITIA, Casso admitted to the ADRV, asserting that they had been prescribed clomifene for a short period to treat a medical condition, following the advice of their doctor.
The ITIA accepted that the violation was not intentional, but that Casso did not take any steps to mitigate the risk of an inadvertent ADRV. As such, a two-year suspension was offered to the player, who acceded to the sanction - waiving their right to a hearing before an independent tribunal. The suspension became effective on 9 January 2026, and the period of ineligibility will end on 8 January 2028.
Results, prize money and ranking points from the event in which Casso tested positive are also forfeited.
During the period of ineligibility, Casso is prohibited from playing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any national association.
The ITIA is an independent body established by its tennis funders to promote, encourage, enhance, and safeguard the integrity of their professional tennis events.
